Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH (ViP)
Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH (ViP) is the public transport operator of the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg. Potsdam counts more than 160.000 inhabitants and is still growing. More than 180.000 citizens are expected until 2025. Because of the striking distance to Berlin thousands of people are commuting between the cities in both directions.
ViP is running 7 tram and 23 bus routes with a fleet of 53 trams and 54 busses (Volvo, EvoBus, 100% low floor). Since the 1990s the bus fleet was renewed step by step.
Within a total route length of about 389 km (79,8 km are tram routes) ViP is serving 625 stops. The tram network is fitted with a regular gauge infrastructure (1.435 mm) and a total length of 29,8 km double track.
Today more than 30 million passengers per year are using the busses and trams in Potsdam.
ViP is 100 % owned by the City of Potsdam.
